The Home Improvement Helper

I need to raise the floor of my fireplace slightly. Can I use half bricks I can get at the hardware store?

We're changing out the fireplace log set to the new glass crystals but the fireplace floor is recessed 5 inches. We don't want to have to buy that much glass. Can we raise the floor using regular bricks from the hardware store?

Better to go to the fireplace store or masonry supply house and buy firebrick. It's a special kind of brick (has a pale yellowish white color) made to withstand the temperature of a fire. Regular brick, fired clay brick anyway will probably be OK, but I'd spend the few extra dollars to be sure.
